As economic doldrums seem to fade away, the manufacturing sector is set to move forward. To accelerate this move, key technology providers have recently gathered together at the PTSC – Tooling Group Open House 2025. Themed around ‘Metalworking Success Talk’, the event focused on providing updates on the latest technologies, with more than 200 products from about 30 brands being showcased. The New X1-EH from YG-1 for Hard Machining

Machining hard materials presents a lot of challenges, including rapid tool wear due to high cutting forces and heat. To address this issue, YG-1 (Thailand) Co., Ltd has presented the new X1-EH, an expansion of their X1-EH end mill series. The product features a new design and technologies aiming to increase machining efficiency in hard machining.

The New X1-EH from YG-1 is a premium solid carbide end mill, featuring a new C-coating with a nanolayer structure for superior wear, heat resistance, and thermal stability. It also utilizes a new fine-grained nanostructure substrate for increased hardness and wear resistance, especially in smaller diameters. Key features include improved edge preparation for better surface finishes, exceptional radius consistency (+1μm -5μm for ≤Ø6mm ball nose tools), and H4 shanks for enhanced runout accuracy. This combination of advanced substrate, coating technology, and enhanced edge geometry leads to exceptional tool life, high-precision milling, and fine-finishing in high-hardened steel (HRc 50-70).

The expansion includes more geometry options and reinforced back reliefs at the ball nose to strengthen stability. For example, strengthened cutting-edge design improves cutting stability and does not interfere with chip flow, or the high-performance corner geometries that result in longer tool life in hard machining. The line has been expanded to include 3-, 4-, 6-, and 8-flute variants in addition to the original 2-flute series, broadening its applicability.

Furthermore, optimal edge preparation is applied to prevent chipping and achieve excellent surface finishes with longer tool life in high-speed machining. Its primary applications are in the die and mold industry, such as plastic injection molds, stamping molds, forging molds, etc.

CAM-TOOL is a high-end CAD/CAM program especially for mold manufacturing, featuring several following advantages:

It enables exceptionally smooth surface finishing on molded workpieces and offers a diverse variety of machining strategies. The system provides precise and reliable performance even for complex and high-hardness material.

The OM-inspection program is an on-machine measurement solution designed to inspect workpieces immediately after CNC machining using a RENISHAW probe. If any dimensional deviation is detected during inspection, the CAM program can be modified and corrected directly on the machine. Once the dimensions are verified to be accurate, the finished workpiece can then be removed and passed on to the next production stage. This significantly reduces production time and eliminates the need for repeated mounting and removal of workpieces for rework. As a result, it enhances efficiency and ensures consistent product quality.

Thanks to the above reasons, manufacturers are able to achieve cost reduction in mold manufacturing, such as decreasing the time to polish, maximizing tool life, and reduce production time on the CNC machine to increase production efficiency.

The equipment also features real-time visualization, so the users can look at the computer screen to see what they are doing and what is left to be done. The product is also virtually limitless 3D scanning, no matter the part size, complexity, material or color.

The HandySCAN 3D BLACK Series, the star of its lineups, is a metrology-grade handheld 3D laser scanner built for accurate (point accuracy: 0.025 mm) and reliable 3D measurement across all part sizes, surface types, and materials. It offers a high measurement rate of up to 1,800,000 measurements/sec and a flexible working distance of 200 to 750 mm for faster acquisition.
