In this edition of the Cutting Tools Tips column, MEGA Tech brings you Guehring clamping technology with outstanding clamping force and rigidity for milling applications and Gühring’s newly developed SuperLine hydraulic chuck. Features a short and compact design.

The right clamping system for your application;It is not only the machine and tool that are crucial for achieving a perfect machining result. The tool holder and the clamping situation also play a decisive role. Especially when milling, the tool holder must fulfil properties such as very high clamping forces, high rigidity and good damping. In the following, we will present three problem-solving solutions which enable you as a user to master every challenge.

HPC power chuck: Outstanding clamping force and rigidity especially for milling

When milling in particular, it is extremely important to consider the interface between the machine spindle and the tool. The tool holder must have basic properties. These include high rigidity, very high clamping forces and good damping properties. Our HPC power chuck fully meets these requirements – for optimal performance during milling.

With the HPC power chuck (art. no. 4300), the tool is clamped by a special clamping sleeve via a mechanical worm gear in the holder. As a result, the tool shank is clamped with very high clamping forces. You benefit from the highest degree of rigidity at the same time and also get good damping properties thanks to the clamping sleeves. With the HPC power chuck from Gühring, you can achieve the highest precision and concentric accuracy – and thus the best possible tool holding, especially for milling.

Precision collet chuck holder: High flexibility – even in the micro range

Optimal results in micro-machining require an optimal tool holder selection. Rotational runout plays a particularly important role at the high speeds typical for micro tools. That’s why our new, completely rotationally symmetrical precision collet chuck holders (art. no. 4304) are especially suitable for machining with our micro tools.

Thanks to the excellent system concentric accuracy of 3 μm and the use of optionally sealed collet chucks for internal cooling or normal collet chucks for peripheral cooling, the tool holder can be perfectly combined with our micro tools.

The rotational runout reduces the residual imbalances of the tool holder to a minimum. It protects the machine spindle and ensures a smooth machining result. As the user, you can achieve a quiet machining result with micro tools even on high-speed machines with speeds of 30,000 revolutions per minute and higher.

SuperLine hydraulic chuck: Easiest handling and flexible use

The newly developed SuperLine hydraulic chuck from Gühring impresses with its short and compact design. Other advantages include high concentric accuracy, easy operation and the very good damping properties familiar from hydraulic chucks.

The use of reduction bushes results in increased clamping force and good rigidity compared to direct clamping.

This means that the SuperLine hydraulic chuck can also be used for milling work without any problems. In combination with various reduction bushes, the SuperLine hydraulic chuck becomes a very flexible tool holder for all areas of application.
