HURCO: An Affordable Pathway to 5-Axis Machining
As demand for complex parts continues to rise, manufacturers are under pressure to achieve tighter geometries, fewer operations and shorter lead times—while maintaining disciplined capital investment. HURCO addresses this challenge with a practical pathway to 5-axis machining: a 3-axis VMC combined with a 2-axis trunnion.

The VM20ZRi 3-axis VMC provides a full-size work envelope of 1,016 × 508 × 508 mm (X × Y × Z) and 760 mm of spindle nose-to-table clearance, providing sufficient space for an add-on trunnion. Its Max5 5-axis control supports simultaneous 5-axis machining, G68.2 Transform Plane, and TCPM/3D tool compensation—allowing manufacturers to begin with 3-axis machining and expand to 5-axis capability as demand grows.
HURCO offers different trunnion configurations, including the AutoCAM ATS160A Rollercam and Peiseler ZATC160 High Precision Worm Gear Trunnion, enabling configurations to be matched to specific machining requirements. Before implementation, part type, material, size and process can be evaluated through machine and trunnion 3D simulation, toolpath simulation, cycle-time estimation, and first article machining.

A machining demonstration further highlights the potential: on a VMX24Di + ATS160A AutoCAM Trunnion, simultaneous 5-axis barrel cutting achieved a cycle time of 8 min 12 sec,
compared with 25 min 01 sec using a traditional ball-nose toolpath, at 8,000 rpm, 1,000 mm/min feedrate and 1 mm stepdown.
Invest smart. Start small. Grow big. HURCO’s 3-axis + trunnion approach provides manufacturers with a scalable route into advanced 5-axis machining without overcommitting at the outset.

NCG CAM: Precision, Speed and Control for Advanced Machining
Complex parts demand more than conventional CAM programming. NCG CAM is a high-performance, standalone CAM system developed for precision high-speed machining (HSM) of complex 3D geometry, moulds, dies and prototypes. Its shop-floor-oriented interface combines robust toolpath generation with a rapid learning curve, enabling programmers to move quickly from programming to production.

Its shop-floor-oriented interface combines robust toolpath generation with a rapid learning curve, enabling programmers to move quickly from programming to production.
Advanced 3D machining capabilities include Automatic 3D Roughing for intelligent material removal, Rest Roughing for remaining stock, and finishing strategies such as Z-Level Waterline, Raster, Spiral and Radial machining. Full gouge protection verifies both the cutter body and toolholder against stock, supporting safer toolpath generation.
For complex geometries, NCG CAM supports 3+2 positional machining and a Simultaneous 5-Axis Module for applications including deep-cavity moulds, turbine blades, and aerospace parts. Intelligent Hole Processing automatically detects hole diameter, depth, and direction, while specialized deep-hole strategies help prevent swarf build-up and tool breakage.
NCG CAM integrates directly with SOLIDWORKS, CREO, Rhino, NX and CATIA, supporting IGES, STEP, VDA-FS, Parasolid and STL formats. Its streamlined workflow progresses from CAD import and automated path generation to simulation, gouge verification and optimized G-code output.
Smooth HSM cutter paths enable higher feed rates while helping extend tool life and reduce machining time.
Tungaloy: Smarter Tooling for a More Efficient Future
As manufacturing demands greater productivity, cost efficiency and environmental responsibility, Tungaloy continues to develop solutions that connect advanced cutting technology with smarter decision-making.
One example is the TungMeister Cost Saving Calculator, an online tool that compares conventional solid carbide end mills with TungMeister head-exchangeable milling solutions. By entering tool dimensions, projection length, cutting conditions, tool life and regrinding data, users can evaluate potential tooling cost savings while reducing inventory and carbide consumption.

Tungaloy is also bringing AI into everyday machining decisions through Gabby, its AI-powered tool-selection assistant. Users can describe their machining requirements in natural language, allowing Gabby to identify missing conditions and guide them toward suitable tools, catalog information and machining recommendations.
Sustainability remains another key focus. Tungaloy’s environmental initiatives include renewable energy, CO₂ reduction, resource optimization and recycling. Its Iwaki Headquarters, for example, has generated solar power since 2015, while the Nagoya facility has operated entirely on renewable electricity since 2022.
For aluminum machining, Tungaloy offers specialized solutions addressing challenges such as burr formation, chip control and high-speed cutting. Its aluminum milling portfolio includes PCD and carbide solutions, with cutting speeds reaching up to 6,000 m/min, depending on the tool and application.
Together, these technologies demonstrate Tungaloy’s approach: improve machining performance, optimize resources and make smarter decisions—one tool at a time.
ENCY: Beyond CAD/CAM for the Next Generation of Manufacturing
At THAIMACH Open House, visitors can discover ENCY Software, a next-generation manufacturing platform designed to unlock greater potential from CNC machining and robotic production. Going beyond conventional CAD/CAM, ENCY brings CNC programming and robotics into an All-in-One platform, supporting CNC machines from 2.5-axis to 5-axis, as well as Mill-Turn, Swiss-type, Wirecut and Hybrid machines.

Built around an ergonomic workflow, ENCY is designed to simplify programming and reduce the time required to find tools, with programming time reductions of up to 50%. Its Machine Awareness capabilities provide a digital view of the machine and surrounding environment from
the start, while interactive layout functions and simulation help users identify potential collisions and axis-limit issues before machining begins.
The platform also extends beyond CNC machining to support diverse robotic applications, including robot milling, cutting, welding, polishing, pick-and-place, spray painting and sculpture. Looking ahead, ENCY’s AI Process Planner introduces AI-driven analysis, feature recognition, optimized process planning, tool selection, simulation and validation—bringing intelligent manufacturing closer to the shop floor.
