Makino Milling Machine Co., Ltd. has officially inaugurated its new Fujiyoshida Plant, reinforcing the company’s manufacturing capabilities to meet rising global demand for high-precision machine tools. Opened on 18 May 2026, the facility becomes Makino’s third production base in Japan, following the Atsugi and Fujikatsuyama plants, and is scheduled to begin full-scale operations in June 2026.
Covering approximately 27,500 square metres, the new production complex comprises three core facilities: an automated warehouse, a unit assembly building and a main assembly plant. Adjacent to the production area, Makino has also constructed a dedicated reception building equipped with two seminar rooms to support customer engagement and technical training activities.

Situated at the foot of Mt. Fuji at an elevation of approximately 900–1,000 metres, the site offers naturally stable environmental conditions with minimal humidity fluctuation—an important advantage for precision manufacturing. To further enhance machining accuracy, the plant has been built on a reinforced foundation incorporating approximately 2,300 underground support pillars, creating an exceptionally stable production environment for manufacturing high-precision machine tools.
The investment is aimed primarily at shortening production lead times for large horizontal machining centres and 5-axis machining centres, while strengthening Makino’s ability to respond to changing market requirements. Demand continues to increase across several key industries, including aerospace, where larger structural components require advanced machining capabilities; mould and die manufacturing, where larger mould sizes are driving demand for bigger machine platforms; and the energy sector, supported by continued expansion of global data centre infrastructure.
Initially, the Fujiyoshida Plant will manufacture 21 machine models from Makino’s current portfolio of 101 models, significantly expanding production capacity for strategically important product lines.

A key feature of the new factory is its highly efficient production and logistics layout. The manufacturing flow has been designed around three fundamental principles—no reverse movement, no crossing and no bottlenecks—allowing materials and assemblies to move continuously in a single direction from parts supply through final assembly. This streamlined approach improves productivity while also enhancing workplace safety.
The main assembly building has also been engineered to accommodate the production of large-scale machine tools, featuring a 25-metre column span and a 14-metre ceiling height. In addition, the facility has been designed with production flexibility in mind, enabling rapid adaptation to changing manufacturing volumes, model transitions and future shifts toward small- and medium-sized machine production.
During the inauguration, visitors were given guided access to both the unit assembly and main assembly facilities, where Makino showcased several machines scheduled for production at the new site. These included the MAG3.EX 5-axis horizontal machining centre for machining aluminium aircraft structural components, the T2 5-axis horizontal machining centre developed for difficult-to-machine materials such as titanium, and the a120nx horizontal machining centre designed for manufacturing semiconductor equipment components.
The opening of the Fujiyoshida Plant marks another significant milestone in Makino’s long-term vision to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities and support the continued growth of the aerospace, semiconductor, energy, and advanced manufacturing industries.
